AWARD ON HUMAN RIGHT Chouchou NAMEGABE LAUREATE OF THE YEAR 2011 ON HUMAN RIGHTS

Chouchou NAMEGABE receive the degree of merit

Chouchou NAMEGABE was crowned with a degree of merit and excellence for the year 2011 by the International Training Center in Human Rights and Development CFIDH/D.

CFIDH officials have expressed the wish to see these winners serve as models throughout the DRC, hoping positive change in all professional sectors.

Coordinator of the Women's Media Association of South Kivu, AFEM SK Chouchou NAMEGABE did not hesitate to call other women and the rest of the population to follow the steps in the dynamics of the culture of excellence.

8 women were amoung 29 people who were crowned by the CFIDH/D. All winners were chosen from different sectors of life; politics, human rights, journalism, education etc.

Among the winners also included the governor of South Kivu province Marcellin CHISHAMBO RUHOYA.

The criteria for choosing the winners were on their good work for 2011 higlighted the organizers.

The International Training Center in Human Rights and Development CFIDH/D, was wreatde in june 2009 in Kinshasa.

- "Reports on gender, good governance and sexual violence in the territories of Kalehe, Uvira and Walungu" with financial support from NCA (Norwegian Church Aid) from May to October 2008.

- "Reports of sexual violence in the territories of Walungu, Kabare and Uvira" with the support of ISIS WICCE, 2008

- Campaign "Challenging the silence: the media against sexual violence" from March 2006 to date with the support of LOLA MORA (radio shows, workshops, advocacy before the International Criminal Court in The Hague)

- "Producing radio within 16 days of activism to fight against sexual violence" with the support of the organization TROCAIRE in December 2007.

- "Awareness of rural women on issues of local elections in the DRC", with the support of the PPI in July 2007

- "Exchange of experience of women in the media in Rwanda and DR Congo" with the support of LOLA MORA organization, 2007.

- "Awareness of rural women in the democratization process in RD.Congo" with the support of the PPI in July 2006 to June 2007
- Institutional support by the Institut Panos Paris from 2006 to 2007

In addition, AFEM / SK offers its services since 2008 for media companies and NGOs (eg in October 2008, covering 80 years of FOMULAC Katana)

Mission

South Kivu Women's Media Association has the following overall objectives:

To work for women's and Congolese women's advancement through available media outlets.

Specific objectives :

To inform women of their rights and the mechanisms in place to protect those rights.

To encourage women's freedom of expression.To fight for equal rights between men and women.

To fight for quantitative and qualitative gender parity in organizations and in all areas of public life.

To facilitate women's involvement in good governance and the brokering of lasting peace.

To support activities for women's development by helping them with communication and access to available media outlets.

To fight against all forms of sexual violence through the media.

To promote peace through the media.

History

Objectives

-Professionalism for female journalists, though training (short sessions or in-depth training thanks to a fellowship program) and through exchanges and networking with foreign media.

-To put in place a network for female journalists on the regional and national level ; To create a similar network for female journalists in other provinces.

-Ongoing awareness campaigns for rural women in South Kivu Province's 8 territories on a various topics, particularly good governance and gender

-To offer news services (organizing conferences, editing articles and providing media coverage) to NGOs and partner media companies.

-The creation of a news outlet in Bukavu, South Kivu Province.

- The installation of a professional recording and editing studio for radio shows.

-The launch of a women's news magazine.
